What to expect
Even the darkest night will end and the sun will rise ~ Victor Hugo, Les Misérables

Life can get difficult, and sometimes a little help from a trained psychologist can make things better. It is very important that you feel comfortable with your psychologist. It is the role of the psychologist to support you and provide a service that best meets your needs.
Like any relationship, it's important for you to know you can talk to your psychologist about any concerns that may arise throughout the therapeutic process. Many people feel a little anxious coming to see a psychologist for the first time. This is understandable, human and very normal. My approach is warm, calm, compassionate and relational to promote a sense of ease, which allows people to feel safe working out what they need. I enjoy fostering genuine and trusting relationships with clients and I've a deep respect for the courage it takes to engage in the therapeutic process.

The first session is an opportunity for you to begin to share the concerns that bring you to therapy. In this session, I collect some history and commence assessment. I may ask you some specific questions to help determine what your needs are, and to help us to develop a plan together for future sessions.
